Coco Leung

Debuting at age twelve as guest soloist with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Canadian-born pianist Dr. Coco Leung is the winner of the 2013 Wildflower International Recording Competition’s Classical Piano category, a top prizewinner at the Canadian Music Competition’s National Finals, and the winner of Memorial University’s School of Music 2010 Concerto Competition with Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. In 2013, Leung represented the province of Ontario at Canada’s National Music Festival in Waterloo, where she was awarded “The Most Touching Performance” for her performance of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. Leung was awarded several Silver Medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) for examinations in both the voice and piano categories, and she has also earned two Performer’s Associateship Diplomas (ARCT) in both Piano Performance and Violin Performance.

Dr. Leung continues to perform in Canada and the USA, and has been featured and interviewed on numerous live radio and television programs including CBC Radio’s Musicraft and Canada’s Rogers cable television network show, “Out of the Fog.” Notable performances to date include a solo concert in Ottawa, Canada hosted by the Taiwanese ambassador, a featured entertainer and solo artist for a multimillion-dollar entrepreneurship fundraising project for the Shorefast Foundation, and appearances in “The Lives of the Piano” concert series curated by Dr. Lisa Yui at Manhattan School of Music (MSM). In March 2019, Leung performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 with the Amadeo Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the “Young Artist Concerto Series” in Mary Flagler Cary Hall at the DiMenna Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. In May 2019, Leung made her Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall with a solo piano recital consisting of selected works by Handel, Schumann, Liszt, and Scriabin, as well as her own transcription of a Schumann lied in the style of Liszt.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (Honors) from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in Canada, Dr. Leung earned her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Manhattan School of Music in Classical Piano. Whilst pursuing her DMA at MSM, Leung was employed as a Doctoral Teaching Fellow in Keyboard Skills, and between 2019–2023 served concurrently as the Keyboard Skills Department Coordinator and Assistant to the Department Head.

Passionate about teaching and mentoring, Dr. Leung maintains a full private piano and voice studio in New York City, and is also a Piano Faculty consultant and coach for TopArt Inc., a consulting agency specializing in music college admissions. Additionally, Leung is employed as the official Cantor at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brooklyn, New York. Past principal teachers include Daniel Epstein (Manhattan School of Music), Alexander Korsantia (New England Conservatory), Timothy Steeves (Memorial University of Newfoundland), Jean Desmarais (National Arts Centre, Ottawa, Canada), and renowned Paris pedagogue Monique Deschaussées, a disciple of Alfred Cortot.
